The secret sauce in all this is VoxCommando. Fortunately for me, I had the Pronto, KIRA unit (about £60) and IP2SL (about £100) already - additional cost was just the VoxCommando licence (about £20). Given above list of components, this isn't a zero cost option. iTach IP2SL unit to receive network command and physically send RS232 command (IP commands sent directly from PC)
IP RS232 CONTROL APPLICATION FOR MAC SOFTWARE
PC running VoxCommando software to listen for network broadcast IR codes from the KIRA module, interpret these and check against predefined list of codes for matches, then issue commands over network Keene Electronics KIRA receiver module (receives IR and converts to Keene format IR code which can be sent to either a KIRA target module, networked PC or both) Pronto remote (though could be Logitech etc) use a program running on network PC to match digital representation of IR code and issue appropriate IP or RS232 (via network connected RS232 box) to control equipment
use a network connected IR receiver to receive IR code and turn into digital representation which is broadcast over local network use programmable remote to blast carefully chosen unique IR code out Thought I'd post about my experiences getting IR control of RS232 and IP devices working - may be of interest or help to others.Ĭoncept is to retain use of your choice of favourite programmable remote control, but to achieve higher levels of reliability of control over compatible kit by using RS232 or IP protocol.
